rocky mountain raptor program
We drove in a few circles to meet an old bookstore friend of mine and to walk around the grounds of the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program. The green came earlier in Colorado, furzing the landscape. And wilted cacti, insect-etched wood.

I still have to share the rest of our Colorado trip, but I wanted to say: my husband has updated my website! It's not terribly different, though the information is updated, which is the most important thing. Thanks, husband! xo

wolverine farm publishing co & bookstore
One of the things I wanted to do the most with this recent trip to Ft Collins was to see the places that are becoming a part of my best friend's everyday life. We were able to visit Wolverine Farm, where Meryl volunteers, both as a bookseller and as an artist. They had a story hour, which we attended, and Maya made a paper lantern with Meryl. She covered the handle with stickers; I think she prefers simple but earthy design, like her mama. (Right? Of course.) Finn has really taken to M too; here he is cuddling up in her arms. So, so sweet. These kids are pretty smart, knowing who to trust and who to love.

lory state park: waterfall trail, north eltuck bay
The kids rolled up their pant legs and waded in the water. We have two SLRs now, so you get to see me in photographs once in a while too, which I am bearing, as I do understand the littles will want to know they had a mama growing up, even if she spent most of her time behind the lens. I'd rather look at my husband's handsome face. The sun was out, full force, the fields brittle from winter melt. Ryan climbed up the rocks to get a better vantage point; it never surprises me to see him scuttling up and up. There's no wonder where our daughter gets it. I love that last photograph of her. I was spoiled by Meryl, who carried Finn much of the way. Spoiled. Look at the sky. Look at the sky.

corners of the poet's home
I'm digging in to my photographs from Colorado and will share them in clumps. As soon as we arrived at Meryl's, I immediately attacked her house with my camera, and here are a few things that drew me. You can see what my odd tastes might be: plants and plants and skulls and oh, the paper cutting! I love the color of fresh green and that bone grey-white. Her home in Colorado seems to get much more light, and there's this lovely little fireplace.
I'll try to post once a day, adding a new clump from my Colorado adventure. It was a really wonderful trip, one of the best I've had, so it will be nice to savor it here.

from january: meryl moves to colorado
It's funny because, as I write this, I'm in Fort Collins with my family, visiting Meryl for the first time, but last January, that hadn't even been planned, and I was too busy being a hermit to really engage in the fact that one of my best friends, and best poet-friend, was moving away, fourteen hours away, from our humble, snowy state. Her husband, who is an incredibly talented tattoo artist, found a job out here, where he's incredibly happy, much to my Meryl-missing chagrin.
So Opal and I took her out for one last hurrah and had some fancy cake and felt sad and good, all at once.
